Launched in August 2024, the Alternate Locate Service Provider (ALP) Program is a new option for obtaining utility locates across Alberta. Developed in partnership with Utility Safety Partners (USP) and major utility owners like ATCO, EPCOR, Fortis Alberta, TELUS, and the cities of Calgary and Edmonton, the program helps reduce bottlenecks in the traditional locate system.
Instead of waiting for consortium locators, excavators can now submit a locate request through USP's ticket system and select "YES" under the Alternate Locate Provider Option. This allows them to hire an approved ALSP like Lawson Alternative directly to perform the locates.
This flexibility speeds up projects, minimizes downtime, and provides greater scheduling control-all while maintaining the same high safety standards.
